Jodie Burrage: Briton suffers defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic at ATX Open in Austin
Great Britain’s Jodie Burrage was eliminated by the ATX Open in Austin, Texas in the final 16th stage, beating Ajla Tomljanovic.
The British player beat Petra Kvitova in the last round, starting before the Australian lost 4-6 6-3 6-0 to the Australian.
Burrage, ranked 189, broke the world in Game 7, 111-year-old Tomljanovic, which proved to be enough to get her to the opening ceremony.
The 25-year-old served in a win against Kvitova as she hit 14 A and scored six A in the first set against Tomljanovic.
But when she committed a double malfunction and dropped 3-1, the bomb was broken in Game 4 of the second set.
She put a lot of pressure on trying to get back the break, but Tomljanovic, 31, persisted in serving the second set.
The decision-maker is a one-sided thing, as Burrage failed to win a game, but she cuts the frustrating numbers.
