NI’s National Training Centre could have ‘huge’ impact, says IFA technical director Aaron Hughes
Aaron Hughes, technical director of the Irish Football Association, said Newly announced national training center There can be a “huge” impact in developing the next generation of the country.
On Wednesday, IFA confirmed plans to build new facilities on the 50-acre site in Galgorm near Baliména.
Hughes said after finding the facility’s location it marked a “first step” in a new journey for football in Northern Ireland.
“As a young player, if you have something like this, you want to be part of it, you want to be a part of it,” Hughes said.
“You feel like you can follow in the footsteps of the players ahead. I think last year, when we were under 17 in the Classic in St. George, the senior team in England lived there at the same time.”
Former Northern Ireland captain Hughes, who was appointed as IFA technical director at the end of 2022, added: “Let our young players train and perform with senior players and potentially create opportunities like this, which is what we are missing . Long.”
