DOGE releases updated “wall of receipts” with more discrepancies
Doge’s “receipt” did not meet its claims for the second time in two weeks.
Monday, Ministry of Government Efficiency Another round of so-called “receipts” was released, or the contract was cancelled to show its cost cuts – and posted it on its “receipt wall.” Just like The first roundthis set also contains inaccuracy.
Despite the doubled number of listing contracts, the updated itemized savings now total $9.6 billion, listed from the initial $16.6 billion savings gate listed last week. Meanwhile, Doge now claims total savings of $65 billion, much higher than the listed amount and an increase from previous $55 billion claims, most of which have been challenged before.
$65 billion is about 0.9% of the federal budget of $67.5 trillion in the entire 2024.
Doge’s website claims that this higher number includes savings from contract and lease termination, renegotiation, grant cancellations, layoffs and other miscellaneous reductions, but Doge has not documented the vast majority of its claimed savings.
Additionally, $144.6 million is attributed to real estate savings, but Doge does not provide support details beyond the dollar figures, agents and outside the city, making independent verification difficult.
Doge It has not been explained why it reduces the total, but this may be due to errors in the original report – many of them determined by news organizations Including CBS News.
Initially, Doge listed 1,127 receipts. This number has now grown to 2299, although 34% of them reported zero savings. The newly added receipt also contains obvious errors and instances of double, triple or even quadruple counts.

Many of the contracts contained in the “Receipt Wall” are unlikely to reach the amount of savings that Doge claims. Many of them are specific types of agreements with “no funding requirements, rarely used”, according to Michael Lejeune, a private consultant with government contract expertise. He also said that some contracts that were not funded or part of the fund were calculated multiple times.
For example, there is a fourfold list for the Ministry of Agriculture DEI training and evaluation service contracts. The total contract was $25 million, and four companies providing these services received funding from the contract. However, Doge mistakenly listed each company as a separate $25 million contract – mistakenly claiming a total of $100 million savings.
Other lists also raise questions, including:
- Three separate item list savings $15 million Each, but every project is referenced Same contracta package purchase agreement under different contractors. A blanket purchase agreement is a standard government agreement that is often used for simple repeat purchases. In this case, the Environmental Protection Agency contract is for “human resources consulting services.” The Trump administration terminated the agreement on January 25, calling the contract the “diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) Enterprise Service Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). It is not clear how much money the contract has been spent.
- Two line item list $9,999,999 Savings cancelled contracts for the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, although both are for Same contract.
- In the first receipt, Doge lists another contract three timesclaiming total savings $1.965 billion. In fact, government records show that only $400 million More than four years have been spent on 44 subcontracts, with the least amount of spending expected to remain. The latest Doge update now lists one of the contracts as a save $0.35,another Zero savings, one third $18,171,886.
- Earlier release error claims $8 billion In savings in cancellation of contracts due to obvious typos in the original document. The actual contract is worth it $8 million. The contract company D&G Solutions confirmed to CBS News that it was an accounting error, and $3.8 million It’s already spent. Despite this, Doge continues to list $8 million In the savings of contract cancellation, when the actual number is $4.2 million.
- Doge also praises on X Sale In Washington, DC, it is claimed to be savings. However, CBS News Discovery The building is actually at auction Biden manages about $4 million.
The biggest new “receipt” is $1.9 billion Because it applies to the IRS, it is not clear whether the cancellation is for the entire project or part of a larger contract. CBS News has contacted the contractor for more details, but no response was heard immediately. At least there is The other five winners meet the criteria For this seven-year blanket purchase agreement.
At the end of 2020, Brookings Agency publishing One study noted that in the government’s workforce, contractors outnumbered federal workers—that year, there were about 2.2 federal workers for every five contractors (the study also noted that President Trump was in his first term. The workforce adds about 2 million jobs). Now, with the zero of these contracts, thousands of government employees and contractors may unemployment therefore.
