Nations League: Women’s game getting ‘tighter’ as Wales eye Sweden scalp
Mayzee Davies won her first match against Italy in Wales and won the Welsh Competition Award.
Mared Griffiths also made his debut in Monza’s defeat, with Wilkinson continuing to stick to her promise and focusing on the euro this summer.
“We said early on, if the least experienced member of the team is not as worthy of victory as the most experienced person, we will not qualify for the euro.”
“It’s a very difficult thing. These women have been working to achieve this for years.
“This is a huge proof for senior players the higher they are on the team because how they make them feel so important very quickly.
“We put young players on the court and they weren’t scared.”
Wales remain unbeaten in native soil under Wilkinson, and they are expected to be supported by the largest family group outside Cardiff when Cardiff plays against Sweden.
Despite planning a group stage match against the Netherlands in the 2025 European Cup, Wilkinson stressed that the Wrexham crowd will see an aspect that will be built to ensure positive results for Sweden.
“I never said that these (National League) games and results don’t matter, they do matter,” Wilkinson added.
“We’re going to win every game. Again, I’m not going to be a coach because I’m going to sacrifice the growth of the team to do anything to win.”
