2 Virginia Beach police officers killed during traffic stop, suspect found dead

Two Virginia police officers were shot dead in a traffic stop Friday night.

Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in a press conference Saturday that their officials Christopher Reese and Cameron Girvin were on patrol, At that time they discovered a blue modern sonata with expired license plates and tried to pull the vehicle over, but the sedan refused to stop. Neudigate said officers followed the car before the deadly shooting.

“We do have all the videos and I’ll tell you it’s very scary,” Neudigate told reporters.

Neudigate said the driver refused when two officers approached the sedan and told the driver to leave the car, “immediately there was controversy.”

At some point, the driver got out of the car and was in trouble with Rees and Gilvin. During the argument, Neudigate said the driver pulled a pistol out of his pocket and shot the officer.

“He fired at them for the second time when he was unprepared,” the police chief said.
“After executing our officer, he walked away peacefully.”

Response officials and paramedics later arrived at the scene, and Reese and Gilvin were taken to a local hospital where they died from injuries.

Meanwhile, other Virginia Beach police searched the area’s suspect, who was found dead in a shed behind a apartment building where traffic was parked. Neudigate identified as a suspect in John McCoy III, 42, believes he died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The medical examiner put his death time shortly after the traffic ceased.

Neudigate added that McCoy had a felony conviction since 2009. A convicted felon possessing a firearm is a felony, but the police chief did not elaborate on the gun and how to obtain it.

Neudigate said there was another person in the vehicle, but no charges were expected.

Police Chief and Virginia Beach Mayor Robert Dyer asked the public to be patient and “sad their own loss” while investigating the work.

“There is no words to relieve pain and loss,” Dell said Saturday.

Rep. Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia Beach, said in an article Social Media The entire community mourns the deaths of two policemen.
