Woman remanded over Madeleine McCann family stalking charges

A woman who claimed to be Madeleine McCann was charged in court with four counts of stalking the family of the missing girl.
Julia Wandel, also known as Julia Wandelt, was arrested at Bristol Airport on Wednesday for alleged stalking involving serious alarms and distress.
Ms. Wander, originally from Poland, was taken to custody after appearing in Leicester District Court on Friday and was scheduled to plead guilty in Crown Court in the city on April 7.
Court documents state that the 23-year-old has allegedly sent a message, left a voicemail, and appeared in a family home between January 3, 2024 and February 15, 2025.
Ms Wandel allegedly had arrived at McCanns’ home in Leicestershire twice to May 2 and December 7, and sent WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry McCann and Instagram messages to Madeleine’s siblings, the documents said .

Madeleine McCann’s three-year-old disappearance in Portugal in 2007 is one of the most widely reported cases of child cases in history, but remains unresolved.
Prosecutor Ravinder Daroch told the court that Ms. Wander had “continuous” contact with the McCanns since 2022, allegedly “increased frequency and became even more shocking” as she tried to Make the McCanns realize that “she is their missing daughter.”
Leicestershire police said a 60-year-old woman from Wales was arrested with Ms. Wander for alleged stalking.
