DJI RS 4 Mini review: a game-changing gimbal for content creators
DJI RS 4 MINI: Two Minutes Review
gimbals has gone from a dedicated filmmaking accessory to an essential tool in every content creator’s arsenal. DJI was almost single-handedly responsible Smartphone gimbals and camera. RS 4 MINI is the latest addition to the lineup and, in my experience, it is the best DJI gimbal for YouTube and Instagram videographer dates.
A look at DJI’s description of RS 4 Mini confirmed that this was a positive test against the content creator. Its spec sheet reads like an influencer’s wish list: it supports vertical shooting; it can be used with cameras and smartphones (using optional mini phone holders); the new smart tracking module enables automatic face tracking Keep the solo photographer in the frame.
Apart from these title additions, you get a series of improvements that make it more complete than the 3 Mini. In physical terms, it borrows many advanced features DJI’s flagship RS4 world. These include automatic shaft locks, which seamlessly unlock when the meter force is enabled, as well as physical switches for tertiary and joystick modes, and fine-tuning knobs for balancing the camera mounting plate.

All of these tweaks improve the already solid hands-on experience. You can get the same 1.4-inch color touch screen, which responds to the slide input here in response to the previous one. There is also a comfortable position trigger and front roller that can be used to control one of several features on the connected camera. (Note that the multi-camera control cable bundled with the RS 4 Mini is USB-C digital. For some models, including the Sony A7S III I shooting, a different cable is required.)
The 4 rupees Mini meets the high production standards of any recent DJI product, and the robustness of the build shows that it will be filmed with you for many years to come. Instead, you release and press the knob so that you can vertically separate and reinstall the plate when the camera is still in place. In this direction, clearing is very nervous.
As mentioned above, the DJI RS 4 Mini can also stabilize the smartphone with an optional mini phone holder. This is just the position on the mounting board. Its performance features mean that if you only shoot content on mobile devices, the 4 rupees Mini is an overdue, but the option adds welcome flexibility to those working across multiple devices.
In practice, other improvements have also proven to be welcome. The built-in battery still doesn’t move, but is bigger at 3,100mAh. The maximum 13 hours requested (from 10 hours plus) is based on gimbal static, which does not reflect real-world usage for most users. In the test, we averaged about half, which is still better than the 3 rupees Mini. It can be said that more importantly, DJI shaved an hour of top-up time, reducing it to 1.5 hours. Reduced means you can resume shooting faster.
Despite its mini nickname, the world’s largest payload is a passionate 2kg, meaning it can handle a Complete mirrorless camera The body is attached to a relatively heavy shot. Fully loaded, its shorter handle does provide less support than ergonomics RS4 or RS4 Pro. In testing, I found the redesigned RS briefcase handle here: lighter and smaller than the previous version, it is mounted on the side of the camera room and adjusted to different angles so that your support hands can hold live.

From a performance point of view, the Rs 4 Mini has ribs that compete with the more expensive gimbals. It’s no surprise that stability is simply the most advanced thanks to DJI’s fourth-generation algorithm – the same algorithm used by RS4 and RS4 Pro. Even if you walk with the subject, it will move smoothly across all three axes effortlessly. In the resulting lens, the action of carrying the camera manually is almost completely eliminated.
Controlling Wan Bay may be an art form, but the 4 mini curves of Rs smooth out the learning curve. Its joystick makes the translation and tilt experience, while the new “responsive” follow mode responds faster to manual motion when hovering the subject. Launch the Ronin app and you will also find options for using your smartphone via Bluetooth as a virtual joystick, as well as creative modes for shooting panoramas, schedules and more. You will have a hard time finding a more intuitive world.
There is no more obvious place than the 4 Rs Mini’s party tips: theme tracking. The key is the optional smart tracking module, which is magnetically fixed to the top of the mounting arm. It uses AI to detect faces and deploys the world’s motors to track them as it takes a small camera lens.

The effectiveness of the tool cannot be exaggerated. For filmmakers, it allows you to put it in the frame without manually shaking and tilting. This is also a blessing for content creators to work alone. Using the 4 rupees tripod base, users can move on the camera, which will move along their faces through a full 360-degree horizontal arc.
These dual uses reflect how you can enable ActiveTrack. The first one is to press with one of the triggers (there is a face in the frame to make me work, and it took a while to figure it out). The second is to use gesture controls: standing in front of the Rs 4 mini, you can throw out the relevant hand signals to start or stop tracking as well as record. When this mode is active, the ring light around the module’s lens changes from red to green (this can be disabled if the situation requires subtlety).
This feature is much less varied than it sounds like. I can see influencers, content creators, and possible presenters using gesture activations to easily control tracking capabilities in the distance. Especially since the feature proved to be very reliable in testing, the signal was never lost.
ActiveTrack proves equally consistent, locking the face accurately. Given that DJI has been perfecting the system on its drones and pocket gipers for years, it makes sense. Its app is a game-changer as it allows you to use tracking technology using any camera or smartphone that can sit on gimbal.
Add the functionality of the RS 4 Mini to you, you are looking for a compact world that allows you to shoot stable, high-resolution video vertically on a full-frame camera. When you think its cost is the same as Rs 3 at startup, and not much in the smart tracking module – this makes the Rs 4 Mini a strong contender for the best value camera tens of thousands of days you can buy you right now.

How do I test DJI RS 4 mini
- I tested DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal for two weeks

DJI gave me a sample unit of Rs 4 Mini Gimbal and provided a smart tracking module, mini briefcase handle and mini phone holder.
Over the course of two weeks, I tested the complete complement of the world and its accessories. I shot mainly with the Sony A7S III, which is connected to the quick release board and is equipped with a Fe 28-70mm F2 GM lens. The combination sits on the upper end of the payload capacity of Rs 4 and hits the scale near 1.7 kg.
To see how the Rs 4 Mini performs as a smartphone camera, I use it with the iPhone 12 installed in the mini phone holder. Use the pre-release version of the Ronin app to pair the same phone with gimbal.
And, since I can use it on hand, I also installed the Nikon D7100 to gimbal using a 50mm Prime lens just to see how well its theme tracking works with older DSLR models.
I spent several hours shooting handheld with Rs 4 Mini. During this time, I connected the optional mini briefcase handle to see how to improve the grip operation using the weight camera.
I also shot with Rs 4 Mini on its tripod base, mainly to test the effectiveness of its smart tracking module for solo content creators. I use gesture controls to control Wanda in the living room.
