Army mishandled sex assault before Jaysley Beck’s death

The coroner said the death of a soldier after being sexually assaulted by her superior was caused by British troops handling her complaint.

19-year-old Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck was found on December 15, 2021 at Camp Lackhill, Wiltshire on December 15, 2021 after a Christmas party.

Gunner Beck filed a complaint in his Major Michael Webber “Pin her down” and trying to kiss her in social work.

On Friday, Assistant Coroner Nicholas Rheinberg determined that the Army’s handling of the complaint was “more than just the smallest contribution to her death.”

The incident occurred in July 2021 at Thorney Island near Emsworth, Hampshire.

The party stretched into the early morning until Gunner Beck and Mr. Webber drank alone.

Gunner Beck claims that WO1 Webber told her he was “waiting for them alone” and had been involved with her in a drinking game called Last Man standing, then grabbed her legs and tried to kiss her.

Shortly after, Gunner Baker called her friend Lance Bombardier Kirsty Davis, “scareful and crying” because “someone tried with her.”

Her feet rested in the toilet compartment and then spent the rest of the night on the phone for fear that he would come to her out of fear.
