Six Nations 2025: Wales give wing Ellis Mee debut against Ireland
Gatland’s second reign as head coach ended behind a horrible exhibition in Rome, the eighth consecutive country’s worst record in a championship defeat to Wales.
This is Wales’ 14th consecutive test loss, and within 72 hours, Cardiff boss Sherratt temporarily appointed the remaining six national fixtures for Ireland, Scotland and England.
Wales fell to its lowest position in the world rankings and has not won a test match since October 2023.
They have lost seven consecutive international players at the Principal Stadium since defeating England in the World Cup warm-up in August 2023.
“We look forward to facing the challenges in Ireland,” said Serrat.
“We’ve talked about bravery this week, but don’t be reckless and make sure everyone knows their role. We also know that keeping our discipline will be huge.
“Everyone is excited for our first home game in six countries. The atmosphere Wales creates in the Principal Stadium is incredible and playing at home is what the players expect.”
By comparison, Ireland won the third consecutive six-nation champion in the world, and ranked second in the world.
They beat England and Scotland in the first round of the match, and they can beat Wales this weekend to win the 14th triple-champion in Cardiff.
Ireland also has an interim head coach at Simon Easterby, with Andy Farrell, who has a link to the top position in Wales.
