Six Nations 2025: Why have Townsend’s Scotland had hex on England?
Despite Scotland’s recent dominance, the past seven meetings have been largely nervous.
The final result of these matches was 23-19 in favor of Scotland. Five of the seven meetings were scored or lower.
Crucially, Scotland led the 19-13 merger attempt, while England scored only 25 points or more – in the extraordinary 38-38 draw at Twickenham in 2019.
“It’s almost like Scotland is looking forward to this game more than England has in the past few years,” Laidlaw said.
“Scotland has been on the front foot, almost like England just tried to defend its own path to victory instead of using an offense.”
BBC expert and former England International Chris Ashton – won four games from four against Scotland during his exam career. He said Steve Borthwick’s current team will be desperate to avoid a fifth straight defeat.
“I can’t really understand being beaten by Scotland four times in a row,” Ashton told the BBC’s Scottish Rugby podcast.
“That’s not something I want to hang on my head. But, this England team hasn’t experienced much everything – maybe three, four.
“So I don’t know how transferable it is. But, anyway, if they are beaten, it’s a tag that’s opposite to your name, isn’t it?”
