A New iPhone SE Is Likely on the Way. Here’s What Could Make It Different
Apple is preparing to refresh budget-friendly iPhone SEexpected to debut as early as this week. The company reportedly did not host a quieter online launch instead of a flashy event, marking a more streamlined way to launch its updated entry-level equipment Bloomberg. Now, we’re only two days away from the big event, so it’s almost time to see the store.
This next generation of iPhone SE (called V59 internally) marks an important step for Apple’s most affordable phones. Rumors say the upgrade is introduced to Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, replacing Qualcomm’s technology and bringing facial ID to the SE lineup for the first time, ultimately eliminating the physical home button. The device is powered by an A18 chip (the same processor expected in the upcoming iPhone 16) and is also set to support Apple’s AI-Power Software Suite, Apple Smartmaking it the most advanced SE model to date.
With these updates, Apple positioned SE as a more compelling option for users looking for quality features at a lower price, while expanding its coverage to those who haven’t switched to iPhones.

Bloomberg notes that current iPhone SE inventory levels have declined in stores, potentially suggesting a product refresh may be coming soon. Some versions are still available online, but others don’t ship until March.
Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The update comes as Apple recently reported 1% of iPhone sales in the holiday quarter, but failed to meet expectations. The more advanced but still affordable iPhone SE can help Apple compete in major markets such as China and India, where budget-friendly smartphones with advanced features continue to attract people.
The iPhone SE currently starts at $429, which is much lower than the $799 entry-level price of the iPhone 16.
