Vance ‘s blast on Europe ignores Ukraine and defence agenda
This year’s Munich Security Conference (MSC) should be about two things: how to end the war in Ukraine without surrendering to Russia, and how Europe needs to increase its spending on defense.
But the highest gift in the United States is US Vice President JD Vance, who uses his time on the podium to talk about it.
Instead, he shocked deputies on Friday, completely attacking Washington allies, including the UK, a bubble attack that condemned misunderstandings, false information and the right to freedom of expression.
It was a very strange 20 minutes-one of the silence of the delegates in the hall met largely.
Even joked: “If American democracy can scold Greta Thunberg for 10 years (climate movement) then you can survive in a few months of Elon Musk” , then it cannot cause a laugh.
He accused the European government of retreating from its values and ignoring voters’ concerns about immigration and freedom of speech.
Vance’s speech was very bad-executed. It has poor judgment.
But who is its goal?
Then, an American commentator told me: “This is all domestic consumption in the United States.”
However, the vice president did meet with the embattled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who did his best.
Zelensky said the two had a “good conversation” which he said marked “our first meeting, not the end, I’m sure.” The Ukrainian leader stressed that Washington and Kiev’s speeches require more and work together to “prepare (ON) how to stop Putin and complete the war.”
“We really want peace very much. But we need real security guarantees,” Zelensky added.
According to U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants peace, but that is peace. Unless these secret changes, they will involve Russia’s demands and permanent ceding of territory to Moscow.
Vance’s speech comes days after President Trump effectively acknowledged Ukraine’s negotiating stance through Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Restore Ukrainian territory to its territory before its first invasion in 2014 is simply “unrealistic”.
The United States also undermined Kyiv’s hopes to join President Serensky’s main ambitions and ruled out sending U.S. troops to help protect Ukraine’s borders, from Russia’s next decision to invade.
Before the Munich meeting, Europe shocked Trump and Putin for a 90-minute call, thus abruptly ending the three-year freeze in the West, having been talking to Russian leaders since speaking with them. Invasion in 2022.
Munich’s representatives plan to focus on Ukraine’s war in a high-profile debate on Saturday.
Munich’s concern among European leaders and their delegations is that Putin will win, stronger and more planned to win more land in Europe in amid Donald Trump’s rush to reach a peace deal in Ukraine.
