Sir David Amess killer left Prevent too quickly, review says
One comment said Sir David Armis’s killer was “too fast” to withdraw from the government’s anti-terrorism process and that his handling was “sub-optimal”.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis told the House of Commons that Ali Harbi Ali, who killed Southendsi MP in 2021, was mentioned for two years.
He said: “The perpetrators were previously transferred to the prevention program and then a professional channel program between 2014 and 2016 (between five to seven years before the attack).
“The perpetrator of the attack on Sir David was known in October 2014 when his school was introduced to his behavior changed.”
Alibaba was appointed as a consultant and was assessed as low terrorism risk in 2015 and the plan was revoked.
Sir David’s family formally complained about how the Essex police handled the process.
The minister said the report found that “the record was problematic and the reasons for certain decisions were not yet clear.”
He added: “There is ambiguous responsibility between the police and local authorities. The tools used to determine individual vulnerability to activism are outdated.”
Conservative MP Sir David was fatally stabbed during a constituency surgery in Essex, Essex on October 15, 2021.
The Prime Minister was asked to consider it, including Sir David in Public investigation into the Southport killing.
