JSE Encourages South Africans To Check If They Have Unclaimed Dividends Owed To Them

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) launches today Ask it The campaign urged South Africans to check whether they are potential shareholders, owing part of the unclaimed dividend of R4.5 billion.

this Ask it Initiative is a collaborative effort between JSE and some of the largest companies listed on JSE to return unclaimed dividends to their due owners. To achieve this, JSE currently has access to 19 issuer stock registration agencies and will work to reunite nearly 375,000 former employees, shareholders or beneficiaries of the deceased estate with unclaimed funds.

There are several factors that cause people to not know what they owe them no dividends. These include people changing jobs, transferring homes to new addresses or updating bank information without notifying public companies. This, in turn, makes it difficult to verify beneficiaries, delaying unclaimed allocation of funds.
