Met Police officers cannot be sacked through vetting, court rules

BBC BBC

The High Court ruled that Metropolitan Police could not dismiss its review by approval of the review review.

The judgment follows a rape charge against Sergeant Lino di Maria, which was later reviewed and deleted.

He applied to the court for judicial review, challenging the legality of the Metropolitan decision to cancel its review.

Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan said the ruling “has a significant impact on what the Metropolitan is doing now to clean up the troops”.

“The defendant’s power did not dismiss the officer by reviewing the clearance approval,” Judge Long said in her ruling.

“Split is a matter that should be provided by the regulations set by the Secretary of State. This situation leads to an abnormal situation in which an official without a basic review cannot be dismissed by the defendant.

“I think the exception may and should be resolved through regulations.”
