Super Bowl 2025: Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Mailata completes ‘greatest story in football’
Mailat has spent two seasons on the Philadelphia practice lineup and continues his development.
“It’s been a few years of wear,” Stotland said. “And then, one day, I mean, the light comes on, and he’s confident in his knowledge. Every year he’s gone to a new level.”
Mailata played his first game in 2020 and has become one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL, helping the Hawks to the Super Bowl in 2023, where they were beaten by the Chiefs.
Last year, he signed a three-year contract extension worth $66 million (£53.3 million), a key part of the biggest offensive line in Super Bowl history.
As an offensive tackle, he blocked the opposition’s defensive line to protect quarterback Jalen Hurts, the most valuable player on Sunday and for Saquin Barkley (Saquon Barkley) runs and opens the gap.
The Hawks gained enough yards Sunday to set a record of rushing yards in the next season, including the playoffs, at 2,504.
“Saqun always says he can’t be great without others,” Merata said after Sunday’s game.
“When I hear me I’m like ‘You know what, maybe it’s me, not all Saqun, maybe there’s only a small chance’.”
The live prime time game features introductions, and they say which college they play at. Since Mailata did not follow the traditional NFL approach, he said “Stoutland University”.
Stoutland believes Mailata, 27, will get better and add “I don’t think this is the highest level.”
“Most of the players you coach, they play in high school and college, so when they get to that level, they get knocked out. But he doesn’t.”
When asked if he could believe how far he had gone, Stoltland replied: “This is the greatest story in football, I mean.”
