Sony Removes ‘Eslop’ Games From PlayStation Store, Report Says
According to Sony’s PlayStation Store, many games have disappeared recently EUROGAMER on Monday. The games in question are called spam or “ESLOP,” which rely heavily on AI and have misleading names and descriptions to attract gamers.
Sony did not immediately respond to a confirmation request for demolition of the game.
These games are the subject of the report IGN Earlier this month, detailed the current problematic trend, mainly affecting PS stores and Nintendo Eshop. A handful of developers (usually composed of only one person), low-cost games from both stores sound like popular games and use generated AI images as graphics with cutting edge. This is designed to attract gamers to find deals for games.
These ESLOP titles usually use the assets of other games or free assets available to game developer tools and slap them together to create an experience that is not worthy of a low-priced charging. Since the game is sold at such a low price, the goal of developers is to sell a large number of copies before people catch up.
The developers of these games are sometimes called “AI Slop”, using the certification process to bring their games to the storefront, with little oversight from the store owner. Sony and Nintendo stores are reportedly flooded with these games, while Microsoft stores have more challenges to publishing games. Again, Steam adds so many games that games that trying to post multiple titles can’t get any attention from PC gamers.
