Sir Gino: Cheltenham favourite ruled out of Arkle Chase and admitted to equine hospital

Sir Gino, one of the hottest figures at Cheltenham Festival next month, has been taken to the Horse Hospital and participated in the season.

Unbeaten Aker trained by Nicky Henderson chases his favorite, being eliminated in Newbury after being injured in a leg.

But this injury has now been infected and needs treatment in the hospital.

Henderson said: “Unfortunately, Sir Gino’s situation has worsened a bit and he has been taken to Horse Hospital.

“The infection invaded his near-posterior ligament due to a preliminary examination at Donnington Grove.

“It will require lengthy treatment and sadly any further games of his season will leave him out.

“It’s a horrible blow to (owners) Joe and Mary Downey and everyone on the seven trolleys, but we’re going to do everything we can to help this incredible bright light of next season back to full fitness.”

The five-year-old Sir Gino won all six of his professional games and beat Ballyburn in his first match in December when he won in Kempton in December It left a deep impression.
