South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke makes ODI history with debut 150 against New Zealand
Matthew Breetzke became the first player to score 150 in his one-day international debut, but South Africa lost to New Zealand in Lahore.
The right-hander won exactly 150 of the 148 balls at the top of the order to win a portion of three innings 304-6 in one match, which also includes Pakistan.
He hit 11 quarters and 5 sixes and five sixes in his debut in 1978 and eclipsed West Indies legend Desmond Haynes.
The highest score for women’s ODI at the time of debut was 136, and was conducted by Chetna Pagydyla of the United States to Zimbabwe.
Breetzke played a test and 10 T20 for South Africa, and he opened the bat and was fired on the 46th by Matt Henry.
The 26-year-old is not part of the South African Championship trophy that began on February 19 and is now working as a weak team for Proteas Balance Workload, SA20 ended on Saturday after Saturday’s franchise T20 Championship.
Wiaan Mulder (64) and Jason Smith (41) support, while Seamers Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke both picked up two wickets for New Zealand.
The successful pursuit in New Zealand was built on 187 two-door stalls between Devon Conway and Kane Williamson in Devon.
Conway scored 97 goals from 107 goals, and when the Kiwi took the point out from teenage Dala Dala, he needed 87 goals.
Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham made their first goal, but Williamson beat New Zealand’s home with an unbeaten 133 goals.
He hit four points to beat the win and moved to 7,000 ODIs in doing so. He reached the landmark in 169 innings, second only to South Africa’s Hashem Amra (150 innings).
The victory secured New Zealand’s position in the three-inning finals on Friday and will join the winner of the match between Pakistan and South Africa on Wednesday.
