Trump fires archivist of the United States, official who oversees government records

President Trump fires archivist for U.S. government official Colleen J. Shogan Save and provide access to government records.

Sergio Gor, director of the President’s Office of Personnel, announced that Shogan was fired Friday night. Shogan has been in the job since 2023.

This move is not surprising. Mr. Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt earlier this month that “we will have a new archivist.”

However, on Thursday, a senior archives administrator official told CBS News that “no news is changing.”

“The archivist looks forward to maintaining a strong working relationship with the president and the first lady,” the official said at the time.

The U.S. archivist who is in charge of the National Archives and Records Administration is often a non-political role and receives little attention. But Mr. Trump has been angry at the agency in the past because it is a key figure in his misconduct against confidential records.
