Premier League and Women’s Super League clubs drive record-breaking January transfer window
Premier League and Women’s Premier League clubs are the driving force behind the record numbers spent on men’s and women’s matches in the January 2025 transfer window.
The club spent nearly £1.9 billion worldwide – the highest level of windows in January.
According to a FIFA report, England’s clubs spend more than a quarter of their men’s games, according to a report compiled by the FIFA.
Manchester City is the largest single spending, signing Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Kusanov and Nico Nico Gonzalez, totaling about £190 million.
The German clubs were the second largest spending (£237 million), followed by Italy (£178 million), France (£167 million) and Saudi Arabia (£162 million).
Total spending in men’s competitions is 20% higher than the record set by January 2024 The total spending of the Premier League was £370 million, far behind the record £815 million in 2023.
A record £4.65 million was spent in the women’s competition, up 180.6 per cent on record last year.
Chelsea set a new world record by signing U.S. defender Naomi Girma with a £900,000 deal with San Diego Inspur.
The Blues also landed Barcelona midfielder Keira Walsh for £460,000.
The French clubs are the second largest spending in the women’s competition (£860,000), followed by the United States (£702,000) and Germany (£298,000).
