Six Nations 2025: Wales head coach Warren Gatland disagrees with Dan Biggar claims
Wales have not been beaten in Rome since 2007, and their most recent Six Nations victory was a trip to Italy two years ago.
Next is the seven consecutive defeats in the game, which will leave Gatland’s squad intending to continually play against Ireland and England, as well as a trip to Scotland.
Another loss from Wales in the world rankings could also bring Wales to its lowest position.
Gatland said victory can take the “monkey” out of your back and strengthen confidence, with the previous international victory in October 2023 against Georgia.
“This will help the player put his shoulders back and get a little taller,” Gatland said.
“Those are important things because I know they are working hard and working hard.”
Also asked if this was the biggest game of Wales’ career.
“I haven’t seen any external pressure yet,” Gatland said.
“I tried to stay away from these things. It just made sure we focused on ourselves.
“If you absorb yourself in it, I don’t think it’s positive, trying to portray to the players what we want them to do.
“We asked them to stay positive and have confidence and confidence. I think every game is very important.”
