South Africa once again demands Taiwan to relocate its de facto embassy from Pretoria, setting a deadline for the end of March for the move. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy will be renamed as a “Trade Office” as a “Trade Office”. The ministry attributes demand to growing pressure from China and points out that Beijing’s impact on South Africa is intensifying. China opened an embassy in South Africa after formal ties with Taiwan in Pretoria in 1998, claiming sovereignty over the island claimed Taiwan strongly rejected the island. The move highlights Beijing’s growing impact in developing countries, as South Africa is a major member of the BRICS Group and continues to strengthen its partnership with China, China’s largest global trading partner. Meanwhile, ongoing negotiations between Taipei and Pretoria are designed to manage relocations while maintaining strong economic ties.
