England in India: Joe Root returns for first ODI since 2023 World Cup
The three-match series starts at 08:00 GMT and is prepared for the championship trophy next month.
England has lost the last three ODI series, but this match is their 50th game as a white ball coach with Brendon McCullum. They lost 4-1 to India in the above T20.
Root’s last ODI was the last game against Pakistan’s bleak World Cup defense in Kolkata on November 11, 2023.
The series and the championship trophy are followed by a journey toward the 2027 World Cup in more than 50-man cricket match.
Root is an important part of England’s 2019 World Cup champions, but has since been struggling for form as his options are limited as the timeline clashes between England’s red and white teams.
He has averaged 28.95 games in 28 games since the 2019 World Cup, and has not scored ODI Century since 100 games against the West Indies in the group stage of that game.
Captain Jos Buttler said: “In all formats, he is one of the great players in the game.”
“I’m so happy to see him in his career. When he didn’t have a captain, look at everything he did in his test job and came back with that cheeky smile.
“I hope he does the same in this environment.
“He became a major player in England in various formats and we think he plays a crucial role in these games.”
Butler also said that despite his failure at the T20, he hopes England will “double” in its aggressive attitude.
“We did a great job at the T20 stage and never had enough time to run and run away from the game and get results, but it’s important that we stay on track and keep the way we want to.”
