Eritrea: Ministry of Agriculture Holds Annual Activity Assessment Meeting

The Ministry of Agriculture held an annual activity assessment meeting to review the achievements of 2024 and discussed the implementation of the 2025 plan in the Amara on January 29 and January 31. The meeting was attended by the heads of the departments of the ministry, regional branches, and stakeholders.

At the meeting, it was reported that more than 414,000 hectares were planted due to a large amount of rainfall and coordination efforts. These include more than 38,000 hectares of various crops and about 60,000 hectares of oil seed crops, which increased by 138 % compared with the previous year.

Regarding the planting of fruits and vegetables, the report shows that about 67 tons of fruits and more than 182 tons of vegetables have been harvested. In addition, the poultry and beekeeping industry also pointed out praise progress.

The report also emphasizes major achievements in soil and water saving. Protective measures were implemented on about 53,000 hectares of land and measured the 6,000 hectares of renovation activities. In addition, more than 1 million hectares of terraces were built and about 100,000 cubic meters of existing terrace was renovated. A total of 24 Micro-Dams have been built, and 22 Micro-Dam is currently being built.

In the healthy areas of livestock, more than one million animals vaccinated vaccines, which greatly reduced the mortality of livestock. Investigation activities were carried out on the 770,000 hectares to control tree locusts, and active control measures were implemented on 34,000 hectares.

It also introduces reports on regulatory activities, agricultural research, livestock and seed health laboratories, administrative and finance, laws and audit services, strategic agricultural information systems and promotional work reports.

Participants discussed the report and passed several suggestions.

During the event, the awards ceremony had been awarded to 100 experts, and these experts contributed to the development of small and productive farms.

At the meeting, Minister of Agriculture, Arefaine Berhe, praised the detailed report and thanked those who contributed to the efforts to ensure everyone’s efforts to ensure everyone. He called for more and more attention to small and productive farms, especially poultry farms and top beehives.
