Starmer first UK PM to join EU leaders’ meeting post-Brexit
Sir Keir Starmer will go to Brussels to participate in the EU leaders-since Brexit, British Prime Minister has done this for the first time.
Starmer is introducing the British Channel to introduce talks focusing on national defense and security cooperation, and will also meet with NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte.
This trip is part of his so -called “reset” between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The government has promised that Britain will not re -join the European Union’s single market or customs alliance, nor will they sign a freedom of action.
However, the ministers really hope that they believe that they have a better relationship in national defense and security, crime and trade.
They hope to organize it before spring and may be completed at the British EU summit in April or May.
The leaders of the 27 member states of the European Union are gathered in the Palais D’Egmont of Brussels, which is described as the 16th -century palace of the “informal retreat” -The Belgian Capital Center.
The background is very clear: Ukraine is ongoing war and Donald Trump returns to the White House.
The European Union acknowledges that it needs to assume greater responsibilities to their defense
The Prime Minister said: “President Trump threatened more sanctions on Russia. It is obvious that Putin was shocked. We know he was worried about the Russian economy.
“I am here to cooperate with our European partners to maintain pressure, for energy income, and to provide his missile factories to shatter Putin’s war machine.
“Because in the end, with our military support, this will make peace closer.”
Britain is also exploring a closer contact with the European Union to deal with serious and organized crimes and vital trade.
It is discussing that allowing food and animal products to be traded more freely, and possible cooperation with the British and EU discharge transaction plans, as well as energy cooperation.
It is also an interesting theme that is easier to travel with each other and allows tourists to travel more easily.
Many people in the European Union are keen on a youth flow plan, making it easier for young people from Britain and the European Union to travel.
However, such a plan sounds like freedom of action. Although the population is narrow, it may be difficult to sell politically.
Considering the size of the European Union and the United Kingdom, young people in the European Union will come to Britain, not vice chairman, which is likely to be the same.
So far, the ministers have rejected the idea.
The European Union also floats Britain to join Known as the Pan-European-Metra ConferenceEssence
The Convention is not a tariff alliance, but deleted customs in products purchased from products signed from other countries/regions.
It is worth noting that the Britain has not excluded the signing of this item, and the government has not regarded it as a violation of its red line.
In some areas, such as the automotive industry, its “timely” supply chain may welcome such actions, but other manufacturers will be more competitive.
Leading Britain’s technical negotiation is Michael Ellam, working on Downing Street at Gordon Brown as Prime Minister.
Ellam’s task is to manage the so -called “EU Relations Secretariat” in the cabinet office. Soon after the election, the main Minister “reset” it with the EU.
As the negotiations continued, Starmer knew that he was facing the political pressure on both sides of the argument.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch claims: “The Labor government is trying to re -open past differences and bring us back to the European Union.”
