Prison officers receive agricultural training from United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to boost food security in Raja County
As the economic crisis has swept the influence of the entire country and the flooding flood hovering, the community of South Sudan is suffering from lack of food and other necessities, and the prices are soaring, and there are almost no things available.
The most hit by the prisoner’s prisoner in prison in South Sudan. In order to help the national prison service overcome this challenge, the United Nations gathered together in UNMISS and Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and started a pilot project- “Green Correction Plan”.
It aims to train people in prison in a scientific way to train food crops.
As part of the initiative of Lajia County, the “Non -Foreign Law” department led 50 prison officials’ training in agricultural skills.
“We have learned a lot of new technologies that can get the best role from our crops, such as understanding, we can plant vegetables such as tomatoes in two seasons (rainy and dry,” the first lieutenant Alfrelet Alfred Mathew said.
Seargent Hanan Paul said: “They taught us how to grow peanuts, sorghum, sesame and beans to produce good production, whether for consumption and business purposes.”
Raja (Raja) is one of the three counties in western El GHAZAL in El Ghazal. It is more than 300 kilometers from the state headquarters and has a county prison. There are more than 50 prisoners, including the Central Prison Prisoners who have been transferred from WAU to the traffic congestion.
“This was developed by the UNMISSS Corrections department. It aims to improve the food safety in prisons, improve agricultural livelihood opportunities, and help eliminate the facility by establishing an agricultural open camp prison.”
Dahia Abdelrahaman, Executive Director of Raja County, encourages prison officials to share their new skills with the community to improve the productivity of agricultural enterprises in the region.
