Tyson vs Paul: Katie Taylor narrowly defeats Amanda Serrano on points in epic rematch
This super fight deservedly ranked high on the list, but the eye-catching domed stadium was nearly packed to capacity as the fighters took to the ring.
A smiling Serrano accepted the applause and danced among the ranks of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.
Wearing a black dress with gold trim, Taylor looked more understated on the ring, but she still soaked up the atmosphere without any real sense of urgency as she strolled down the catwalk.
Serrano started strong, landing a left hook that caught Taylor’s legs in the final seconds of the first round.
Bray native Taylor knows all about her opponent’s power and she somehow found her footing in the fifth round of her first fight to a memorable degree.
As the match began to heat up, she once again weathered the storm and landed a combination in the second game.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, who was unsure if he would be sanctioned for the fight after criticizing Tyson’s fight with Paul, watched the fight from the sidelines.
The challenger complained to the referee about Taylor’s excessive hold on the ball, and the two women traded punches and kicks in an exciting fifth round, with Serrano landing accurate punches.
After another clash of heads in the fifth, the ringside doctor glanced at Serrano, and the crowd gasped at the close-up on the big screen.
Serrano continued bravely, her vision hampered as she wiped away the blood every few seconds. Taylor aimed his left hook to do the damage and both fighters threw caution to the wind.
Taylor was hurt by an uppercut in the seventh and responded with a two-punch combination. The fight lived up to all the hype, with Serrano’s warrior spirit winning over fans who might not have been invested in their major support.
After the points were deducted, Taylor continued to punch and Serrano also continued to punch.
Just as they had done at Madison Square Garden in New York, Taylor and Serrano continued to raise their hands until the final seconds of the tenth round.
Serrano outclassed Taylor and was more accurate with his punches. She also landed 324 punches in 10 rounds. More than they landed combined in the first game.
