WillGriff John: Wales prop a doubt for Six Nations opener v France

There is a major doubt over whether Wales prop Will Griff John will be available for at least Friday’s Six Nations opener against France in Paris.

The 32-year-old failed a head injury assessment after leaving the pitch in the first half of Sale Sharks’ 32-23 home Premier League win defeated by bath on Sunday.

John is one of three level-headed pillars of Warren Gatland’s side, along with Cardiff City’s Keiron Achillati and the Scarlets’ Henry Thomas.

But the number three jersey is in question for Wales, with Bath’s Archie Griffin unavailable after shoulder surgery and Leon Brown also recently retired.

John has not featured for Wales since 2021 and made his second start for Sale this season against Bath, with a further four appearances as a substitute.

Asirati was second choice behind Griffin during Wales’ autumn internationals, with Thomas an uncapped player as Wales remain winless in 2024.
