Australian Open 2025 results: Madison Keys shocks Aryna Sabalenka in Melbourne final
American underdog Madison Keys finally won the Grand Slam trophy after defeating defending champion Sabalenka to win the Australian Open women’s singles title.
Keys, playing in her second Grand Slam final and first in seven years, defeated the world number one 6-3 2-6 7-5.
The 29-year-old is the fourth oldest woman to win her first Grand Slam title.
Keys, seeded 19th in Melbourne, held her head in surprise before sharing an emotional embrace with her husband and coach, Bjorn Fratangelo.
Belarusian Sabalenka, 25, has been trying to achieve a rare three-game winning streak in her first Grand Slam match of the season.
A distraught Sabalenka covered her head with a towel and rushed into the dressing room.
When the world number one returned minutes later, she received a standing ovation from the 15,000 fans at Rod Laver Arena.
