Australians react to smell of plant in bloom

Nearly 20,000 people visited the Sydney Botanical Garden and smelled its aroma when an endangered plant called “corpse flower”.

This Titan konjac plant is called Putricia, and it will emit a rotten smell similar to “rot” or “hot garbage” within 24 hours after flowering.

This smell is the result of the production of chemicals in the plant to attract the powder.

This endangered flower is native to Sumatra, Indonesia, and it will only bloom every 7-10 years in the wild. It is believed that the number of global plants is less than 1,000, including plants that are being cultivated.
