ChatGPT down as thousands report issues worldwide
Thousands of people report they are unable to use ChatGPT, the world’s most famous artificial intelligence (AI) tool
DownDetector, which tracks website outages, showed that more than 10,000 people reported on Thursday that an artificial intelligence chatbot made by OpenAI was not working in the UK.
Users who try to use it receive a message “The web server reported a bad gateway error.”
OpenAI has yet to comment publicly on the outage. The BBC has contacted the company for comment.
However, many took to social media to highlight the issue and the disruption it caused them.
The service outage began around 11:00 GMT on Thursday and users continued to report problems.
ChatGPT status page It said the app had a “high error rate” and the company was “currently investigating.”
While many people use the free version of the chatbot, the company charges up to $200 per month for different membership levels.
OpenAI boss Sam Altman said in December that more than 300 million people around the world use ChatGPT every week.
Previously, technology companies including OpenAI pledged to invest $500 billion (£405 billion) in artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States.
