Australian Open 2025: Inside Novak Djokovic’s partnership with coach Andy Murray
While Djokovic hasn’t trained at Melbourne Park since his win over Alcaraz, there are plenty of opportunities over the two weeks to see how the team dynamic plays out.
During a warm-up match against Britain’s Jacob Fearnley before the quarterfinals, Murray watched every move intently from behind the baseline.
When the match ended, Djokovic hugged Murray before the pair had a quick knock on the court, to the delight of hundreds of spectators.
After a few tame games, Djokovic delivered a rather cruel lob given Murray’s fitness issues, and the Scot dutifully tracked him down.
Then it was back to collecting Djokovic’s rackets and taking them to the stringers.
“When I saw Andy carrying all of Novak’s racquets down the corridor and taking them to the stringers, you could see he took this job very seriously,” Australia’s former world No. 4 Sasha said. Stosur told Channel 9.
Djokovic provided more insight during pre-match practice against Alcaraz, Jack Draper and Arthur Fells.
Murray followed Djokovic closely, sometimes even in the doubles arena, providing constant feedback, shouting praise and taking notes after winners.
He also conducted observations with Boris Bosnjakovic, who runs Djokovic’s training center in Belgrade, and last May, under his long-time coach He became part of the team after Goran Ivanisevic left.
“It’s about making some small changes to things and trying to help him and improve with the whole team,” Murray said.
