In terms of appearance, the G309 Lightspeed keeps it simple. There’s no gaming graphics or design (not even any RGB lighting), and it looks more like a productivity mouse than anything else. There’s just a small Logitech G logo that provides some contrast to the monochromatic color scheme.
The overall shape is sleek, with a bulbous rear that tapers toward the front. It’s not as wide or as long as the G502 Lightspeed, which is best gaming mouse About. But the mouse buttons do feel long, and their relatively flat profile means your fingers are more horizontal than you might think; grippers may not find the G309 Lightspeed to their liking as a result.
The build quality is also very good. The plastic casing feels fairly thin but is still sturdy, and thankfully the large lid of the battery compartment feels secure but is easy to open when needed. The mouse buttons are flexible and lightweight, yet sturdy enough to inspire confidence.
The roller’s notches are tight enough to prevent misfires but loose enough for fast performance. However, the scroll wheel button has too much resistance and is sometimes awkward to press. However, the side buttons are lightweight, responsive, and sturdy.
The PTFE pulleys are very thin, so I recommend using the G309 Lightspeed mouse only on padded surfaces. There are also no replacement skates included in the box like some other gaming mice.
The G309 Lightspeed weighs 86 grams and does feel comfortable in the hand. The weight is mainly concentrated in the mid-rear, which helps it feel balanced, but those with lower DPI settings may struggle with large slides. The lack of grip doesn’t help either: There are no indentations on the sides to allow thumbs and fingers to properly grip the body, and the smooth-textured plastic material doesn’t offer much traction. However, having grip tape on the sides and mouse buttons does help improve the situation.
If you use the G309 Lightspeed with the Logitech Powerplay Wireless Charging Pad, the weight drops to 68 grams when you remove the AA batteries. This makes the G309 Lightspeed more suitable for big sweeps. However, Powerplay is an added extra that adds to the overall price of the mouse.
Logitech claims that the Lightspeed Hybrid switches feel mechanical despite being optical. I have to say, these statements all make sense. They’re light enough for super-fast clicks but also provide enough feedback to feel what’s going on, all of which makes gaming with the G309 Lightspeed extremely satisfying.
The G309 Lightspeed is also very smooth and precise when gliding and aiming, although the 1K maximum polling rate may not be enough for those looking for the absolute best FPS performance. However, the G309 Lightspeed still excels in this regard.
The Lightspeed wireless connection didn’t give me any trouble while gaming either. Switching between the two devices (one connected via Bluetooth, the other via a Lightspeed USB adapter) is also quick and hassle-free.
Various adjustments and customizations can be made to the G309 Lightspeed through Logitech’s G Hub software. There are profiles for a host of popular games, as well as DPI presets for a variety of genres and use cases, including productivity, first-person, MMORPG, simulation, and strategy. You can also adjust the sensitivity yourself in each of five DPI increments, from 100 to 25,600.
In addition to DPI settings, you can also reassign mouse buttons. Options include rebinding buttons to other buttons and keys, as well as common shortcuts and system-level functions such as looping audio devices, copying and pasting, launching applications, and controlling media playback. There are also configurable actions specific to Discord, Streamlabs, Overwolf, and OBS.
You can also change the polling rate, and the switching type from hybrid to mechanical. However, the G309 Lightspeed lacks some of the more advanced tweaks found on other gaming mice. For example, there is no motion sync switching, or boost and debounce timing adjustments.
Battery life is claimed to be up to 300 hours when using the Lightspeed wireless connection, and up to 600 hours when using Bluetooth. While I wasn’t able to spend as much time with the G309 Lightspeed, I can say that after nearly a week of use via Bluetooth and the Lightspeed Wireless USB adapter, battery life dropped by about 5 percent, so Logitech’s claims are true. Seems pretty accurate.
Considering its performance and specs, the G309 Lightspeed is a good value at this price point. The multiple wireless connectivity options and integration with Logitech’s G Hub software are welcome features and work as expected. However, the 1K polling rate may not be enough for some, and there are other gaming mice, such as the Cooler Master MM311 and Logitech’s own G305, that may be better value depending on your gaming mouse needs.

The G309 Lightspeed is priced at US$79 / £79 / AU$149 and is available now. It comes in two colorways: black and white. A special edition of Kamisato Ayaka is also available in some regions, such as the United States.
Although it comes with AA batteries, the G309 Lightspeed can be used with the Logitech Powerplay Wireless Charging Pad, and the brand is currently offering a 30% discount on the bundle.
The G309 Lightspeed belongs to the low-end product of Logitech’s Lightspeed wireless gaming mouse series. The G502 and G903 beat it spec-wise, with upgraded hardware and additional features. However, while the G502 does have a built-in battery and a host of additional buttons, it’s only slightly more expensive.
The G305, meanwhile, is even cheaper, although it only has one onboard memory profile slot, compared to the five on the G309 Lightspeed. There’s no Bluetooth connectivity either, but it does have a built-in battery and a USB-C port.
If you’re really on a budget, the Cooler Master MM311 is even cheaper, approx. The best wireless gaming mouse In terms of value for money. Like the G309 Lightspeed, the MM311 has a 1K polling rate and requires AA batteries.

I tested the G309 Lightspeed for about a week. During that time, I used the G309 Lightspeed for gaming, productivity, and general use.
I’ve played a few games that put the G309 Lightspeed through its paces, including Counter-Strike 2 and I am your beast. I also used as many features and made as many tweaks as possible through the G Hub software to test its usability and effectiveness.
