Everton: Hayley Ladd on move from Man Utd

Ladd played 110 games for Manchester United and won their first major trophy with the team in the 2024 Women’s FA Cup.

She had been a key player under head coach Marc Skinner but began to be overlooked following the summer arrival of Dominique Janssen.

After five-and-a-half years with the club, Ladd said she was “proud to represent the team” and admitted it was a “breath of fresh air” to try something new.

“It’s a big part of the game, but it’s difficult. It really challenges you as a person and as a player. It was a tough time, I’m not going to lie,” Ladd said.

“Hopefully it will make me stronger. Manchester United’s journey is probably the same as mine and you feel the emotional tangle.

“I advocate for things in the best possible way and I’m the best teammate.

“Sometimes you have to rip the Band-Aid off and getting out there and trying new things is the best thing you can do.”

During his time at Manchester United, Ladd performed in front of fans at Leigh Sports Village.

“This was my first experience with real female fans. I just thought ‘This is awesome,'” Ladd said.

“The support is relentless. I never knew there was anything like it. It doesn’t give up. It’s so resilient. It’s been an amazing experience playing with the fan base.

“I think it’s a great connection. I certainly feel that in my own way. You realize that even when you’re having a hard time, the fan base is really going to support you and help you get through it. It’s a It’s a very meaningful thing because of a player.”
