Over a Thousand US Flights Cancelled as Historic Winter Storm Spreads

Flights continued to be canceled across the United States on Wednesday as the historic winter storm that battered Louisiana, Texas and other Gulf Coast states continued for a second day.

As many as 69% of flights departing from New Orleans were canceled on Wednesday. According to flight tracking website FlightAware, so far, 1,292 flights in and out of the United States have been canceled and more than 900 have been delayed.

On Tuesday, there were 2,347 flight cancellations within, in and out of the United States, and 4,723 flight delays.

Houston airport to reopen soon

The Houston airport suspended operations Tuesday but will reopen at 10:00 a.m. Central Standard Time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Storm precipitation is expected to continue into Wednesday morning along the Gulf Coast and Southeast, with “heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain expected from northeastern north Florida to the Outer Banks of North Carolina,” according to the National Weather Service.

Southwest Airlines (low uv) has canceled more than 200 flights on Wednesday, with United Airlines (University of London College of Art), American Airlines Group (Asian Airlines Association) and Delta Air Lines (DarFlightAware data shows more than 100 of each aircraft have been scrapped.
