Private sector pay boosts UK wage growth
Wage growth in the UK continues to rise, driven by strong pay rises in the private sector, official data shows.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), normal wages increased by an average of 5.6% between September and November compared with the same period last year.
However, private sector earnings growth was stronger at 6%, compared with 4.1% for the public sector.
The Bank of England is still expected to cut interest rates next month despite the risk of higher wages pushing up inflation.
