NBA: Golden State Warriors thrashed by Boston Celtics
The Golden State Warriors suffered their worst loss at home under head coach Steve Kerr, as they suffered a 125-85 defeat at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
Kerr is a five-time NBA champion as a player and has won four more NBA championships since taking the helm of the Warriors in 2014.
But the Warriors were defeated by the defending champions, who ruthlessly defeated the Dallas Mavericks by 40 points. This was the Warriors’ biggest loss at home since a 45-point reverse of the Dallas Mavericks in 1985.
Leading by 15 points at halftime, the Celtics scored 43 points in the third quarter alone, highlighting their dominance.
Jayson Tatum scored 22 points for the Celtics, while Kristaps Porzingis and Jaylen Brown scored 18 and 17 points respectively.
“We’ve got to flush this down the toilet and get ready for Sark,” said Kerr, whose team will face the Sacramento Kings in their next game.
“We’ve been very competitive all year. Our guys have been fighting, but we’ve had a few shutouts. Those are demoralizing.”
The Warriors last defeated the Celtics in the Finals to win the championship in 2022 and currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference, well away from a play-in spot.
The Celtics are second in the Eastern Conference standings, behind the Cleveland Cavaliers.
