Trump to take aim at immigration and US-Mexico border on day one

Incoming President Donald Trump plans to declare a “national emergency” at the U.S.-Mexico border, part of a broader first-day series of executive orders aimed at quickly reversing Biden administration policies.

Trump will be sworn in as president on Monday and is expected to sign as many as 100 executive orders by the end of the day, touching on issues ranging from immigration and energy to the economy and gender issues.

As part of the plan, Trump will also order the resumption of border wall construction and formally designate some criminal organizations as foreign terrorists.

During the campaign, Trump vowed to end what he called Joe Biden’s “open borders” policies.

In a series of calls with reporters Monday morning, incoming Trump administration officials outlined dozens of executive orders they plan to take when the president-elect officially takes office, 10 of which focus on what one official called “common sense.” Immigration Policy”.

As part of the national emergency designation, Trump will also direct the Defense Department to “seal the border” and add additional resources and personnel, including counter-drone capabilities.

Additionally, the Trump administration plans to reinstate the controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires migrants to wait on the Mexican side of the border for asylum proceedings.

Incoming Trump officials also pledged to begin what they called a “whole-of-government approach” to combat inflation, issuing executive orders to boost U.S. energy production and address high energy costs for consumers.

Officials confirmed, however, that no new tariffs would be announced on Inauguration Day, despite being a central part of the incoming president’s economic vision.

Trump has previously said he would INew tariffs imposed on goods Entering the United States from Canada, Mexico and China on their first day in office.

The orders are expected to be signed at the US Capitol shortly after Trump takes office (1700 noon local time).

After being sworn in, Trump will deliver an inaugural address, followed by a luncheon, parade and a series of inaugural balls in the evening.

About 20,000 people are expected to attend the march, which was moved to Capital One Stadium over the weekend amid concerns about the frigid temperatures sweeping Washington, D.C.

The in-person audience was a fraction of the approximately 220,000 spectators expected to watch the event on the U.S. Capitol grounds.

On Monday morning, a table was set up in the center of the arena that some speculated could be used to sign executive orders in front of his supporters.
