Derry City: Candystripes sign Carl Winchester and Robbie Benson
Derry City have further strengthened their squad with the signings of Shrewsbury Town captain Carl Winchester and experienced midfielder Robbie Benson.
Derry boss Tiernan Lynch has included Northern Ireland internationals Liam Boyce, Gavin White and Shane Ferguson in the Candy Stripes squad for next season, which starts away from home on February 14 The challenge to champion Shelbourne begins.
Winchester has been playing regularly at League One side Shrewsbury, initially on loan and later on permanently, having previously played for Sunderland.
In May 2011, the 31-year-old midfielder made his debut for the Northern Ireland national team in a 2-0 friendly win over Wales at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Winchester, who has played for Oldham, Cheltenham and Forest, said: “When I heard there was interest I knew after speaking to the manager and when I got home, I only want to play in one place and that’s here.”
