EFL investigating Shrewsbury Town v Wrexham crowd incidents

The English Football League (EFL) is investigating a crowd incident at a League One match between Wrexham and Shrewsbury Town on Thursday.

The referees formed a barricade when Wrexham’s James McLean took a throw-in in front of the Shrewsbury supporters in the second half of the game at Crowder Turf.

The game was briefly paused as video showed someone in the stands throwing objects in McLean’s direction. After the 2-1 defeat at Wrexham, McLean posted derogatory comments about Shrewsbury on his Instagram account.

The post was later deleted.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson spoke to Sky Sports about the McLean incident, saying: “He’s fine. James is used to it wherever he goes.”

“The fans are on his back whether it’s home or away and sometimes it’s tough and it spreads but he’s used to it.”

It is unclear whether McLean’s social media posts are under investigation, but Wrexham have confirmed that the EFL is investigating the crowd incident during the cross-border derby with Shrewsbury Town.
