Australian Open 2025 results: Jannik Sinner ‘has room to improve’ after reaching fourth round
Jannik Sinner says there is “still room for improvement” in his Australian Open title defense after beating Marcos Giron to reach the fourth round.
World number one Sinner was not at his fluent best but stepped up when needed to beat the American 6-3 6-4 6-2.
The Italian won his first major title at Melbourne Park at the start of a remarkable 2024, during which he won the US Open and six ATP Tour titles before finishing the year as number one.
He hit 35 winners and eight aces against Geelong, but also made 37 unforced errors.
“Every game has its own difficulties. I still have room to improve, but every win is great,” said the 23-year-old Sinner.
“If I want to stay in this game, I have to improve.”
Sinner is currently on a 17-match winning streak, with his last loss coming against Carlos Alcaraz in the Beijing Open final in October.
Spain’s four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz is on the opposite side of the draw at Melbourne Park, meaning he and Sinner can only meet in the final.
Alkaraz will face Britain’s Jack Draper in Sunday’s fourth round, while Sinner will face Serbia’s Miomir Kekmanović or Denmark’s 13th seed Holger Ruhn. .
