Premiership Women’s Rugby: Gloucester-Hartpury, Harlequins & Bristol Bears win
At Ashton Gate, Ilona Maher made her first home start for Bristol but it was Holly Phillips who stole the spotlight with four of the Bears’ seven tries, The final victory was 43-29 against Leicester Tigers.
While front-rower Phillips’s quartet of goals was largely down to the strength of Bristol’s forwards, the hosts also displayed some smooth, wide-open rugby, providing for Simi Palm, Millie David and Gabri Ella Nigrelli created the chance.
The win moves Bristol up to fourth, although Exeter Chiefs could move back above the Bears if they beat Loughborough Chargers on Sunday.
Tahlia Brody scored two of Leicester’s five shots to earn them a bonus point, but they remain second from bottom in the table.
