Uganda is taking Bold Steps to Overhaul its Waste Management System – Africa.com
This follows the tragic collapse of the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, which killed 35 people and destroyed hundreds of homes. After decades of neglect, authorities are closing overburdened dumpsites and seeking sustainable solutions. Those efforts include partnerships with global waste-to-energy developers such as Infinitum Energy Group, which plans a $500 million renewable diesel project, and Beeah Group, which can help build a power plant. While challenges remain, such as funding and community resistance to new landfills, these initiatives aim to turn Kampala’s waste into resources, reduce environmental harm and build urban resilience.
