Australian Open 2025 results: Danielle Collins unfazed by boos during third-round loss
Collins became a pantomime villain at Melbourne Park on Thursday when she said fans heckled her were donating to the “Danielle Collins Fund” and she would use the winnings to travel to the Bahamas.
When Collins double-faulted for the first time against Case, the crowd erupted in cheers, and at the end of the first set, the referee reminded the fans to respect both players.
But Collins, who also had to take a medical timeout due to a knee injury, said it was important to “bring some entertainment” to the sport.
“I don’t have a huge amount of self-awareness when it comes to these things and I don’t care what someone sitting in a basement is writing about me,” she added. “I just want to enjoy my life and have fun.
“You can’t please everyone. Earlier in my career, I cared more about what people thought and I was more cautious about my personality.
“Maybe as I get older I’ll develop an attitude of being myself and accepting who I am. I’m proud of myself and I’ve gotten to the point where I no longer care what people who don’t matter to me think.”
Collins will now travel to the Bahamas, adding that “a lot of my friends have asked if they would be invited on board the yacht”.
