Nintendo Switch 2 Revealed, More Details Coming on April 2
Nintendo has Commitment to follow up After more than a year, the company’s popular Switch handheld console is finally available. this Switch 2 has been announcedwill arrive this year. But Nintendo won’t tell us more information until April 2nd. Now, here’s the trailer: Yes, there’s a new Mario Kart. Yes, this looks a lot like the existing Switch. But you also have the chance to sign up on Friday, January 17, to get free tickets to demos of Switch 2 around the world starting in April.
this Original Nintendo Switch, Announced in 2016 But released in March 2017, it was a complete surprise with its innovative modular design and snap-on controller. The Switch 2 isn’t so much a new product as it is a belated sequel to the same idea. Better graphics, better controllers, and better performance in TV docking mode are part of what makes the Switch 2 compelling.
But Nintendo has only shown us a trailer for the Switch 2 so far.
Here’s what we’ve seen:
- The Switch 2 is bigger and has a bigger screen.
- There are now two USB-C ports (one on the top and one on the bottom). Maybe this could allow glasses to be connected?
- The stand is now handle-shaped. And it leans all the way back.
- Yes, there is a headphone jack.
- Accepts physical cartridges.
- The Joy-Cons have a similar shape and look like two sets of shoulder buttons when separated. They also have different docking pin connectors. They appear to attach magnetically to the console or controller accessory.
- There’s a new Mario Kart game.
- The Switch 2 will have exclusive games and will be able to play Switch games in digital or cartridge form. But Nintendo warns that not all previous games will be compatible.
Is this Mario Kart 9? It’s been over 10 years since Mario Kart 8 was first released on Wii U.
How to register for the Nintendo Switch 2 trial

This suggests a May or June launch.
Beyond these details, it looks like Nintendo won’t reveal pricing, specs, or details about the launch game until April… which will be a while yet. But the Switch 2 looks like an iterative upgrade of the existing Switch, rather than something entirely new. This could mean that existing Switch owners won’t necessarily feel like they have a reason to upgrade immediately – except for those unknown new exclusives.
