Australian Open 2025 results: Ons Jabeur recovers from breathing difficulties to win
The 30-year-old Jabr missed the US Open and the Paris Olympics last year due to injury, and his world ranking has dropped to 39th.
She ended the 2024 season in September and returned to competition earlier this year, saying the long absence caused her asthma issues to resurface.
“Being off for a long time didn’t help. I think it pissed it off even more,” she said.
“I guess I have to find a way to feel better for the next two days, which I hope to do because this thing started two or three days ago. I feel like it’s getting worse for some reason ”
Jabr will face American eighth seed Emma Navarro in the next round, who defeated Chinese player Wang Xiyu 6-3 3-6 6-4.
“I’m really just going to take it a minute at a time and see how things go, but I’m definitely going to prepare as best I can,” Jabbour said.
“I don’t want to get greedy when I come back from injury. Sometimes I get angry because I feel like I’m back there, but something happens every time.”
Meanwhile, 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina won her 50th Grand Slam match by defeating 17-year-old American wildcard Eva Jovich 6-0 6-3 victory.
Jovic was the youngest woman in the second-round draw but struggled against 2023 Australian Open finalist Rybakina, who is ranked 184 spots higher than Jovic.
The Kazakh will face 32nd seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the third round, who reached the semifinals as a qualifier last year.
