Ivory Coast’s Ouattara Indicates Interest in 2025 Presidential Race – Africa.com
President Alassane Ouattara has hinted at the possibility of running for a fourth Ivorian presidential term and said he is ready to continue serving the country. Addressing the diplomatic corps in Abidjan, Ouattara cited his health and dedication as reasons to consider re-election. However, he stressed that his party has not yet formally selected a candidate for the upcoming presidential election. In September, his party expressed support for his potential candidacy, but a formal nomination has yet to emerge. The 83-year-old leader, who was re-elected for a controversial third term in 2020, has previously expressed a desire to resign, but only if his rivals also withdraw from politics. Elections scheduled for October 2025 are likely to reignite debates over term limits and political continuity in Côte d’Ivoire.
