Masters snooker: Judd Trump beats Barry Hawkins 6-1 to reach quarter-finals
World number one Judd Trump began his bid for a third Masters title with a comfortable 6-1 win over fellow Briton Barry Hawkins at Alexandra Palace.
Trump was quick to criticize any mistakes made by Hawkins, the man he defeated in the general election. British Championship final December.
The 35-year-old shot 59, 60 and 56 to lead 5-0.
While Hawkins responded with a break of 70 to put a frame on the scoreboard, Trump cruised to victory with a break of 112 to set up a quarter-final clash against China’s Ding Junhui on Friday.
In the second game of the round of 16 on Tuesday, 2018 champion Mark Allen of Northern Ireland will face Chinese newcomer Si Jiahui (19:00 GMT).
