Tyson Fury retires: Dick Turpin, Oleksandr Usyk & Anthony Joshua

Fury last retired in 2022 when he stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley. Five months later, he fought Derek Chisora.

Carl Froch, Tony Bellew, Barry Jones and Carl Frampton are just a few of the fighters who have questioned the veracity of the news.

“To be honest, I don’t really believe in him. He’s probably retired at least three times now. I think we might see him come back,” Frampton said.

Jones’ initial reaction was similar: “Fury is Fury. What he’s saying isn’t what he’s going to think tomorrow.”

The video itself is cryptic, referencing the infamous 17th century bandit Dick Turpin.

“Dick Turpin is wearing a mask,” Fury said in the video. This is a phrase sometimes used by people who think they have been robbed.

Was Fury referring to his? Lost to Oleksandr Usyk on points December 21st? Of course, he said he was “robbed” and that Ukrainians received an “early Christmas gift” after the verdict.

However, despite the naysayers, Bunce said Fury’s family, including his wife Paris and their seven children, want him to retire for a while after 25 years in the sport.

“When he retired in the past, it was because he had been in a dark place,” Bunce added.

“Maybe this is Tyson Fury’s reflection. He tried his best and he lost (against Usyk).

“He’s on his way now. There’s a good chance that this is it, and this could be where he rides off into the sunset.”

Lee, a regular at Fury’s corner, said the news was shocking but not surprising because Fury has been “very disappointed” with boxing since losing to Usyk.
